The PETRAS National Centre of Excellence for IoT System Cybersecurity was delighted to host an exhibition stand at NCSC’s CYBERUK 2022 in Newport, South Wales on 10-11 May 2022.

The Centre exhibited PETRAS’s wide breadth of research and engaged both new and established stakeholders in government and industry. PETRAS received extremely positive responses from delegates reinforcing the importance of the Centre’s collaborative and socio-technical research approach.

Attendees were invited to sign up for an online ‘surgery session’ with a selection of PETRAS projects (P-PITEE, RED-AID, SDRIOTTS and REG-MEDTECH), in which they had the opportunity for direct conversations with leading academic experts.

Additionally, PETRAS was delighted to have the Edge of Tomorrow project’s ‘Prometheus’ game at the stall, developed by Dr Adrian Gradinar, Dr Michael Stead, Franziska Pilling and Ian Forrester (BBC R&D). This proved to be a very popular activity and sparked many conversations on the relationship between cybersecurity, the Internet of Things (IoT) and edge technology, and environmental sustainability. One player commented having played the game that it had ‘blown him away’.

Attendees were also able to take away the PETRAS Little Books and Industry Briefings, both proving very popular.

PETRAS representatives Joe Bourne, Emilie Didier and Rajab Said were happy to reconnect with many existing partners and showcase the excellent work of PETRAS researchers, but were able to expand the PETRAS community, introducing new contacts across industry and government.

Highlights of the CyberUK event included an opening address by GCHQ Director, Jeremy Fleming, who remarked on the ways Covid-19, the war in Ukraine and the continued commoditisation of data has further increased the awareness of vulnerabilities in supply chains and the importance of digital connectivity to all of our lives.
