This project aims to form a partnership between PETRAS researchers at Lancaster and CityVerve researchers at Manchester University in order to:
- Explore the use of Internet of Things (IoT) sensors and displays to provide users with trusted visibility of local IoT devices in urban environments;
- Demonstrate the potential of such an approach using IoT air quality sensors and displays deployed at three locations within the CityVerve region;
- Report on user attitudes to IoT visibility and produce guidelines for future deployments;
- Conduct an initial study of how display-based sensor and data visibility can be used in conjunction with maps of IoT sensors to further user awareness and trust in an otherwise invisible IoT infrastructure.
Crucially, we aim to provide a concrete example of PETRAS and CityVerve researchers collaborating on a topic that draws from both projects and that has a publicly visible output.
