Making the Invisible Visible – Secure, Trustworthy IoT Displays and Sensors for Urban Environments in CityVerve (IDice)

This project aims to form a partnership between PETRAS researchers at Lancaster and CityVerve researchers at Manchester University in order to:

• Explore the use of Internet of Things (IoT) sensors and displays to provide users with trusted visibility of local IoT devices in urban environments;
• Demonstrate the potential of such an approach using IoT air quality sensors and displays deployed at three locations within the CityVerve region;
• Report on user attitudes to IoT visibility and produce guidelines for future deployments;
• Conduct an initial study of how display-based sensor and data visibility can be used in conjunction with maps of IoT sensors to further user awareness and trust in an otherwise invisible IoT infrastructure.
