Future possibilities for Transport and Mobility: Workshop report

On the 11^th January 2018, UCL hosted a workshop at STEaPP, at its offices in the famous Georgian Fitzroy Square in London – there were film crews present on the day in the square but sadly they were not there to cover the meeting itself! The workshop was brought together to discuss the future possibilities for a Transport and Mobility demonstrator and was led by Professor Carsten Maple of the University of Warwick. Present on the day were staff from Imperial College London, Lancaster University, University College London, the University of Warwick and University of Surrey who were joined by industry partners from Network Rail, Pinsent Masons and Ordnance Survey.

Discussions focussed around the current landscape for transport demonstrators in the UK and beyond which is quite a congested area with significant investments made in the last few months particularly into the area of CAV demonstrators. Bearing in mind the level of activity that exists in this area, it was decided that a further piece of work was required to conduct an audit of existing investments in the sector and where the gaps and opportunities might exist for PETRAS to make a real impact and add value.

Ultimately, this work will inform a proposed transport and mobility demonstrator, which will involve as many PETRAS partners and universities as is possible.
